In this modern hi-tech world of blog, tweet and Wii, reading a (story) book may have lost its appeal for some. However for the language student it remains an invaluable learning resource. The aims of this short paper are three fold. Firstly to highlight the importance of reading in general and extensive reading (ER) and graded readers in particular in the development of reading fluency and their role in the learning of a foreign language.
