The purpose of this study was to clarify the actual situation and the current issues about
the psycho-educational intervention for suicide prevention in university. A questionnaire was
administered to 205 students and 192 were returned with data available for analysis. The
questionnaire was designed to assess how prevalent the suicide ideation was among university
students, and how much they need the chance of having education for suicide prevention, and
so on. The main results were as follows: first, suicide ideation and self- injury were seen among
a certain degree of students. Secondly it was not uncommon that students were asked for help
by their friends at risk, though they’d had little chance to learn how to deal with youth suicide.
Thirdly the suicide education should aim not only to teach students for helping their friends at
risk, but also to teach how manage their psychological distress for themselves. Lastly, suicide
prevention program should be designed with much concern to reduce students’ fear of suicide.
