The purpose of this study is to find the functional design for the working clothes of hospital nurses, that is, nurse-uniforms to be worn in their working hours, based on my researches made in 1956, 1960, and 1966. I staged a working people's clothes show in 1956 and 1960. In 1966, I investigated the history and the recent shifting of hospital nurse uniforms. At the first show I was thinking of using light-colored cloth, for the material but, being unable to find suitable cloth, I used white one. At the second show, however, I used colored cloth offered by the Toyo-rayon Company Ltd. There is no reason why nurse-uniforms must be white; colored ones will do just as well. I presume that light-colored uniforms, say different colors for different departments, will come about Sooner or later, taking into account the harmony with the modern building, favorable influence on the patient, and the synthetic beauty of the environment.
