A survey was conducted on the clothes-washing with feet used at general homes for a long time at Okutsu spa in Okayama prefecture and the following results were obtained: 1. The cleaning effect obtained by using the spa water was 'better than that obtained by using the city water of Hiroshima either with or without detergent. In this connection, the examination of the spa water, that was apparently colorless and transparent, revealed that the temperature was 43.5℃, hardness 7.0 ppm, pH 9.2, main dissolved components bicarbonic acid ion, natrium ion, sulphuric acid ion, and other several inorganic salts. 2. The cleaning effect of washing with feet was better than that of washing with hand, nevertheless, the physical load of the former was lighter than that of the latter. The washing with feet by skilled women who live in this area showed better cleaning effect with lighter physical load than that by unskilled women. 3. The dissemination rate of the electric washing machine at general homes in this district was merely 63 per cent in comparison with 97 per cent of that in Hiroshima city and the suburbs. Further, practical use of the machine in this district was no more than 30 per cent.
