One of the most important things in making garments is to have good paper patterns that are well shaped to one's body. It is necessary, therefore, to know one's body type, accurate size of parts of the body and how one's body and its parts change according to one's bodily movements. In our previous measurement, which was taken in 1969, we studied 118 women students of Hiroshima Bunka %men's Junior College (aged between 18 and 20) on their shoulder length and shoulder slope. In the present study we measured 543 grown-up women from 25 to 65 years of age living in Hiroshima city and the surrounding areas. The number and the age of the subjects are as follows; 58 persons aged 25~29, 90 aged 40~44, and 50 aged 55 ~ 65. The meaurement was taken between June 3, 1972 and August 5 of the same year. The parts measured were shoulder length (right and left), shoulder slope (right and left), shoulder width, neck base girth, stature and weight. The apparatus used for measurement were a steel tape measure, a body angle gauge, a height measure and a weight gauge. Here is a brief summary of the result. 1) There was no remarkable difference of shoulder length either between the right and the left shoulder or among the age groups. The average value was 12.9 ~ 1 3.3 cm. 2) The right or the left shoulder length of about 70 % of the subjects was distributed between 11.6 cm and 14.5 cm irrespective of age. 3) There was no remarkable difference of shoulder slope among the age groups. The average value ranged 19.9 ~ 22.1°. The right shoulder slope was slightly greater than the left. 4) The shoulder slope of about 70 % of the subjects was distributed between 17.5 ~ 27.4°for the right, and 13.5 ~ 27.4° for the left. 5) Between the right and the left shoulder length and also between the right shoulder length plus the left and the shoulder width, there was a high correlation of more than 0.7, while between the right and the left shoulder slope there was a correlation of 0.5 ~ 0.6. Both were significant at 1 %. 6) It was shown that the subjects in the present study had broader and slightly squarer shoulders? than those women students aged 18 ~ 20 in our previous study.
