Waistlines of 198 women's junior college students were studied and were classified into 9 body types. Then those 9 types' waistlines were compared with the waistlines of 7 diffrent styles for making skirts. The following results were obtained: 1) The waistlines of Bunka Style correspond to CC&BA body types, and ones of Doreme, Ito, Koide, Billy and High School Styles correspond to CA, AA&CB, AB&BB, AC&BC and CB body styles respectively. 2) Doreme, Bunka, High School and Ito Styles fit the waistlines which are tilted in back, Koide Style fits the horizontal waistlines and Billy Style fits the waistlines which are tilted in front. 3) Doreme Style has the deepest hollow of the waistline in back part (2.5 cm) and Billy Style has the deepest in frong part (2.5 cm). The degree of fitness has been discussed comparing the styles for making shkirts with the 9 human body types. The writer intends to advance this study to find out how the waistlines of the styles for making skirts can be adjusted to fit those of various body types and also to find out changes in waistline in various clothing desings.
