In 1986, we took measurements of the feet of 229 women's junior college students and compared our data with JIS sizes which were revised in 1983. 1. A comparison of our data with the measurements obtained in the Second Survey of Japanese Physique revealed that there was no remarkable difference between them except in the items of stature and weight where our data showed slightly larger values. 2. The measurements means were as follows: foot length, 22.74 cm (right), 22.76 cm (left); foot width, 9.19 cm (right), 9.15 cm (left); foot girth, 21.86 cm (right), 21.84 cm (left). 3. About 50% of foot length, about 52% of foot width, and about 40% of foot girth were the same between right and left. 4. The maximums were as follows: foot length, 24.5 cm (right), 25.0 cm (left); foot width, 13.5 cm (right and left); foot girth, 27.0 cm (right), 26.8 cm (left). Foot length showed a difference of 0.5 cm between right and left, while foot width and foot girth were the same or nearly the same. The minimums were as follows: foot length, 18.7 cm (right), 18.6 cm (left); foot width, 6.6 cm (right), 6.7 cm (left); foot girth, 17.5 cm (right), 17.2 cm (left). There was no remarkable difference of minimum between right and left. 5. The ratios of foot length, foot width and foot girth (right and left) to stature were as follows respectively: 14.4%, 5.8% and 13.9%. 6. In JIS sizes (Attached List 2: for Women, S5037-1983), foot length was 19 1/2 -27 cm with 1/2 cm divisions, and foot girth was 183-225 mm for 19 1/2 cm with 6 mm divisions and 228-270 mm for 27 cm also with 6 mm divisions. In our data, foot length was distributed between 19 1/2 -25 cm, and foot girth, between 183-225 mm for 19 1/2 cm foot length, and 216-258 mm for 25 cm foot length.
