This is the second paper on determinants of expressing politeness. The purpose of this study is to find out the relation between the system of polite expressions in Japanese, the speech style and the interpersonal impression from pragmatic and psychological perspective. Interpersonal impression can be measured using a semantic differential method. Three factors are extracted using a direct oblimin method for factor analysis, namely 'activity', 'trustability' and 'tolerance'. Factor scores for each informant are calculated according to the three factors. The relation between factor scores and degree of politeness, and also the relation between factor scores and the psychological distance measured using a mental map method are investigated. And the relation between a degree of politeness and psychological distance is re-studied excluding the data for one teacher (named teacher D). Degree of politeness and two factors ('activity' and 'trustability') are correlated each other, especially degree of politeness and 'trustability' have a strong correlation. 'Trustability' is also correlated to the expectation of hearers' toleration. The psychological distance and all of the three factors are correlated. As a result of re-study, a fact that degree of politeness and the psychological distance (concentric circles pattern) have a positive correlation is found. Also result shows that adolescents (informants) use polite expressions based on both a evaluation apprehension and the psychological distance.
