Description

The brown alga Hizikia fusiforme (HARVEY) OKAMURA (Phaeophyceae) growing profusely in the Seto Inland Sea of Japan and has been widely used as foods for a long time from the ancient time particularly in Japan. The present paper deals with the reliable methods for the potential utilization of the Hizikia. Calcium, iron and sterols constituents of the Hizikia were characteristically present in appreciable amounts. Therefore, the Hizikia as the nutritious substances is discussed.
