Changes in the factor structure and mean teacher efficacy scores of junior college students specializing in early
childhood care/education and preschool teachers in active service were compared. Previous studies by Tagashira(2012, 2015) have indicated differences in the factor structure of teacher efficacy between first- and second-year junior college students. The present study indicated that teacher efficacy in preschool teachers with six years or less career experience had a three-factor structure. It is suggested that preschool teacher efficacy is differentiated by accumulating childcare experiences. Moreover, a 3 (groups) × 3 (factors) analysis of variance was conducted to compare mean scores of the preschool teacher efficacy factors among the three groups: preschool teachers, first-year junior college students, and second-year junior college students. Results indicated significant differences in interactions and main effects. The preschool teacher efficacy score dropped from the first- to the second-year for all three factors. Furthermore, preschool teacher efficacy in dealing with children improved through job experience during the first six years of employment. On the other hand, the ability to understand the overall situation score in preschool teachers was lower than in second-year students.
