Japan and Korea’s childcare policy shares many commonalities and issues. In addition, both countries have adopted a nation-led evaluation and certification system as a means to improve the quality of nursery care. In this point Korea’s evaluation and certification system is very helpful for Japan. Therefore in this research, we introduced the index of Child Care Center Accreditation System in Korea. The purpose of this study is two. First is to clarify how the index of Child Care Center Accreditation System in Korea is being implemented from the establishment up to the present. Second is to introduce the current 3rd index of Child Care Center Accreditation System in Korea. The evaluation and certification system in Korea was introduced as a way to raise the quality of nursery service as voices against serious fertility problems and the improvement of the quality of child care for voters have increased. And while the new evaluation and certification index was required to unify kindergartens and nursery schools, it was made as an integrated evaluation system of kindergartens and nursery schools. In addition the new evaluation and certification index reflects the problems surrounding kindergartens and nursery schools in recent years. And it was a very helpful reference for Japan with similar problems.
