Pre-coded questionnaire surveys are frequently applied in research on environmental evaluation. In these questionnaires, a free description column is often designed.
This study aims to discuss on applying the text mining approach to free description data and residents' environmental cognition about living environment. In particular, the applicability of dependency analysis is considered. Therefore, the survey about living environment was conducted for residents living in slope and flat city areas. This survey is subject to compare
between both.
The obtained results are follows:（1） Dependency analysis is effective for living environment evaluation,（2） topographic differences affect resident’s environmental recognition,（3） in slope city areas living environment is subjectively recognized from negative side, （4） on the other hand in flat city areas is objectively recognized like bird's eye view.
