Abstract

Plastics are very useful materials consisting of higher molecular compounds which are used to make a variety of daily necessities and industrial facilities. A large amount of plastic waste is discharged as general and industrial waste,causing a depletion of resources and a deterioration of the enviroment. The amount of plastic waste discharged all over Japan is about four million tons each of general and industrial waste. At the present time,the major methods for treating plastic waste are land disposal (41%) and incineration disposal (36%),and material circulation is only 10%. Utilizable resources are,however,limited and we cannot use these for ever without endangering the environment. Accordingly,we should aim to construct an environmentally concerned society which considers not only production-currency-consumption but also discharge-resource-environment. Plastic waste is examined for effective utilization of recycling by material circulation and thermal recovery. We compared with the methods for recycling plastic waste generated in local regions. We have to support the construction of a new separation collection system for the beneficial recycling of plastic waste by everybody in each local place of bisiness.
