Theodor W. Adorno, known as a famous philosopher and sociologist, had some impacts on the history
of German pedagogy. To show a tendency of these impacts, This paper follows the history of German
pedagogy after Adorno's death (in 1969).
In the 1970s Adorno was known as one of the authors of Dialectics of Enlightenment, one of the leaders
of critical theory or Frankfurt School in German pedagogy. But in the emancipative pedagogy Adorno's
thought was less interested than Habermas' thought.
In the 1980s postmodernism was the rage, Adorno's own thought became the focus of public attention
because of his criticism of modern rationality and of his original reflections on aesthetics.
Since 1980s, some essential studies on Adorno's thought appear in German pedagogy. These studies are
"faithful" to Adorno's thought, provided that this faithfulness is in various ways.
