Development and investigation of a portable stand for the chest radiography of kyphosis patients
Aged patients with kyphosis caused by fracture of the spine due to osteoporosis and the like has the spine with abnormal curvature.When the chest radiography for this patient is taken in supine position,several problems arise: difficulty to keep accurate radiographic position because of the patient’s pain in contact of the spine deformation part with a film cassette; cutoff of incident x-ray beams due to a radiographic grid inclined by the contact; medical exposure of a radiography assistant; etc. The aim of the present study is to develop a portable stand for the chest radiography in order to solve the above problems.This stand can raise and support the spine deformation part of a patient with a backrest so that this deformation part does not directly touch a grid/cassette.In addition, it provides a cassette holder that can adjust the angle of incident x-ray beams on the deformation part. As a result of clinical application of the present stand,it has been proved that the patient’s pain is well eased, and that the cutoff of x-ray beams due to the inclination of a grid can be effectively suppressed.Moreover, the medical exposure of a radiography assistant was avoided without supporting a patient by virtue of stable positioning of the patient.
