This study aims to investigate Japanese verbal greeting behavior focusing on feelings of strangeness among Chinese learners of Japanese， and to reveal the most difficult points to understand for the Chinese learners. The study also supplies data to solve problems in intercultural communication that result from the differences of language and culture between Japanese and Chinese. The results of this study can be useful for improving intercultural communication both in Japanese and in Chinese and also for teaching Japanese or Chinese as a foreign language.
