Abstract

Why is the government of Singapore stable? This article tries to analyse the governmental structure of Singapore by highlighting the role of political leaders. Who are the political leaders in Singapore? Where do they come from? This article examines the possibility that political leaders come from various groups such as the aristocracy, pressure groups, the military, and the business sector. In Singapore, unlike other countries in Southeast Asia, there are few groups that have a direct influence in the government. The People's Action Party(PAP) is the only group(political party) that has influence over the Singapore government. The latter part of this article, examines how the election system in Singapore facilitates the emergence of PAP parliamentarian from whose ranks the leadership of the government is constituted.
