Abstract

This research studies the effect of teaching about nutrition during school lunchtime in addition to a regular home economics class in junior high schools.
A number of students from both lunch and regular class periods were asked about their views on studying nutrition, and many of them answered that they found it “very interesting.” The number of people who were interested in studying nutrition has greatly increased from before. In addition, the
students’ understanding about nutrition has also increased.
Based on this research, we can predict that students’ motivation to study nutrition and to connect their knowledge about nutrition to their daily life has increased. Additionally, we predict that the students’
understanding about nutrition has increased.
This research made it apparent that we can expect a growth in students’ understanding about nutrition.
However, there are many problems finding time for both regular class teachers and lunchtime nutrition specialists to collaborate with each other. Therefore, it is important for us to research and create common teaching methods for both regular class teachers and lunchtime nutrition specialists.
