The Department of Child Education and Psychology at Hiroshima Jogakuin University was reorganized and converted to the Department of Child Education in 2018, drastically changing its curriculum. From the new curriculum, most clinical psychology subjects centering on counselingrelated subjects were removed with some exceptions. This paper reviews and evaluates teaching practice in the course for “Counseling Jitsumushi” as one of the qualifications certified by Japan Association of University and College for Business Education and clarifies its problems. Related to the development of counseling mind in the course of Early Childhood Education and Care, this paper also analyzes the use of picture books, based on educational practices at other universities and Course of Study for Kindergarten approved by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. As a result, it reveals that enhancing students’ language activities is needed in all subjects of child care and education, to develop teachers with counseling mind and good communication skills in the new curriculum.
