The influence of Matthew's Gospel over Ignatius of Antioch has attracted great scholarly attention and numerous studies have investigated their relationship and reached vastly diverse conclusions.
This article attempts to find the literary contact between Matthew's Gospel and the Epistles of Ignatius through the exegetical analysis of nine instances from Ignatian epistles, and argue about the pattern and theological characteristics of Ignatian 'reference' of Matthean Gospel.
