Abstract |
This paper discusses the origins and structures of black English from historical, social and linguistic point of view. Although black English originated as a pidgin-creole language, it has been losing some of its original characteristics and has become closer to standard American English. By looking at the structures of black English mainly in the works of Zora Neale Hurston, we discover that present black English is in the process of shedding its creole English characteristics. |
