What is ornamentation? What is the relationship between Art and Ornamentation? This is a very interesting theme, because ornamental nature is one of the special characteristics of Japanese fine art.
First, ornamental nature is dealt with in terms of line, color, and form, using examples from Yamatoe, Ukiyoe and Rinpa (Japanese traditional schools of painting).
Secondly, the beauty and ornamentation of Noh costumes is discussed, using those from Itsukushima Shrine as examples.
