The metrical structure of English phrases can be represented by both tree structures and metrical grinds. Grinds provide an actual representation of stress contour. This paper basically follows Liberman-Prince's or Hayes's tree-based theory, and explains the Rhythm Rule and Relative Prominence Projection Rule in more detail. The Rhythum Rule is applied; Eurhythmy plays an important role in the application of Rhythm Rule.
In this paper, another Relative Prominence Projection Rule is introduced which not only includes Selkirk's Beat Addition and Hayes's Rhythmic Adjustment, but also explains the relative prominence between two W-labeled constituents.
Revised Grid Construction assigns a grid mark only to a (+stressed) syllable, and that reduced a stress clash and simplifies the derivation of a stress pattern.
