The hypothesis of the "spiral of silence" was advanced by E.Noelle-Neumann during the
1970s in order to discover new paradigms on media effects. Using this model，Noelle-
Neumann has reevaluated the effects of mass media，especially on public opinion. Here，this model is introduced，and theoretical implications，methodological problems and
future applications of this model are discussed.
