Abstract

The methods to observe the microfibril and α-cellulose of the cell wall by means of
transparent electron microscope,using the dried Laminaria japonica Areschoug as materials,were studied. The results revealed that 1. The damage of the microfibril was mostly slight in the material which was extracted by hot water at 900℃ for 60 minutes. 2. In the material which was extracted by ethanol some of the microfibrils are embeded in amorphous matrix of cell wall. 3. The damage of microfibrils were remarkable in the material which was extracted by hot water,ethanol and then alkali solution in order. 4. In the α-cellulose which was treated with chlorinate after extraction described above 3, usual microfibrils were not observed but specific figure of the microfibril was noticed.
