Abstract

In July 2018, catastrophic flooding and landslides occurred in western Japan due to heavy rains. This study examines the relationship between a manufacturing practice and Disaster Prevention Consciousness through a series of individual interviews with senior high school students who had been impacted by the disaster. The practice did manufacturing "Radio with Simple Lightning Detector" as extracurricular activities that simulate the technology class, and the practice completed distributing their products. The results obtained from the interviews were compared with those of students of the same age who had not participated in the project, as well as with students who had been affected by the Great Hanshin earthquake of 1995.
The results of the interviews suggested that the following views might be drawn. First, the practice could educate students to carry out evacuation behaviors based on objective facts. Second, the practice let these students recognize the importance of solving problems by combining advanced integrated knowledge. Third, students understood by the practice that thinking and devising enriches their life. Finally, Present time of the Technology class is not enough to make use of it for disaster prevention.

平成30年7月豪雨の被害は甚大なものであった。2017年に「簡易型雷警報機付きラジオ」を技術科の題材としてその製作から頒布まで実践した生徒も被災した。この被災生徒と題材を製作していない同年齢の生徒の意識や,阪神・淡路大震災時の調査結果を比較するために,個別面接法による調査を実施した。
その結果,当該生徒は,客観的な事実の把握を基にした避難行動ができたこと,上位の統合された知識を組み合わせて問題解決する大切さを実感したこと,考えて工夫することが生活を豊かにしていること,及び現状の中学校技術・家庭科の授業時間数が防災に活かすためには十分ではないこと等の見解が示唆された。
