本稿では、1930年代から1960年代までの時代、いわゆる「ドクターの時代と」、1960年代から1970年代までの時代、いわゆる「病院の時代」の病院経営における社会経済的背景を考察した。各時代の社会的経済的事実は、以下の通りである。⑴　医療技術の発達による医療専門性の発展⑵　医療技術の発達による医療分野の拡大⑶　⑴と⑵による病院の規模の拡大⑷　BLue Cross等の保険組合の創設⑸　医療供給体制の充実（ヒル・バートン法の制定）⑹　医療の質を担保するJCAHの創設⑺　医療技術の発達による病院の多機能化⑻　メディケア・メディケイドの創設　最後に、本稿では、上記の社会経済的事実から生じる、アメリカにおける病院の経営管理の必要性について詳細な検討を行った。

The purpose of this paper is to consider the social and economic environment in American hospital management during the so-called "physician era" from the1930s to the 1960s, and the so-called "hospital era", from the 1960s to the 1970s. In this paper conducts a detailed examination of the necessities brought about in hospital management by the differing social and economic factors during these eras.
