アクション・リサーチは、教育、医療、福祉、地域開発などの分野における実践的研究方法としてイギリス、アメリカなどで多くの研究がある。その特徴は、研究者と研究対象者との関わりの平等性にあり、研究の評価は研究課題が如何に改善されたか又は変革されたかを指標として行われる。福祉分野においては、社会生活上の諸課題を解決することがそのサービスの目的であり、この点で、アクション・リサーチが有効な理論となると考えられる。本研究においては、Stringer(1999)が提唱する「コミュニティに根ざしたアクション・リサーチ」を基礎理論とし、知的障害者通所授産所H作業所(1)の利用者Oの事例をとりあげ、知的障害者のコンピュータ基礎講習の計画、実行、終了後の結果考察と今後の課題を明らかにする。この事例を通じて知的障害者のエンパワメントにアクション・リサーチが果たした役割を検証する。

This study aims at clarifying important issues through analysis of the effect of basic education of computer skills for a young person with intellectual disabilities, using Community-based Action Research by Stringer (1999) as a means of study. There are different Action Research inquiries in the fields of education, hospitals, social services, community development and so on in the United States and Great Britain. The common feature is a process of continuous developmental spirals. The criteria are how to maintain the equal status of researchers and the researched, and how to make progress and/or to change the situation. In the field of social welfare, it is the purpose of services to help solve problems that emerge in the daily lives of people in the community. Action Research is one of useful inquiries for treating complicated problems in society and both researchers and the researched can coordinate with each other. This paper presents the results of a case study for empowering a young person with intellectual disabilities through computer training and for finding his future job. Through this study the eligibility of Action Research is verified.
