Cinematographic study was conducted on the service motion during world cup volley ball games. The six large male servers were selected by the ratio of ace service points. The motions were filmed from the side with a 16-mm high-speed camera (200 frame/sec). By using a computer with a digitizer, kinematic data were calculated. The results were as follows: (1) Higher initial velocities for balls (30.9 m/sec) were recognized at “drive service motions” than“floater service motions (20.22 m/sec)”; (2) The whip-like-actions of three players were observed. They showed efficient motions by using muscular elastic energy.
