Nine years have passed since the Learning Assistance Center of HIT was established. During our nine years’ efforts to support the underachieved, more and more needs have arisen to encourage them to be autonomous learners. In this report we have discussed, (a) since when the phrase “voluntary motive for learning” started appearing in such education-related documents as the Courses of Study, (b) what the definitions of “voluntary motive for learning” are and (c) how a voluntary motive for learning occurs in a person. Finally, some cases of our actual educational practices at the Learning Assistance Center are introduced.
