Abstract

The non-compression brace proposed by the authors is a slender brace with an end installed by a set of the wedge device. The NC brace resists tension without buckling due to no compression. The steel framed structure arranged Z-type NC brace is named Z-type NC braced frame. The braced frame can absorb elastic strain energy by one directional incremental deformation behavior. Shaking table tests and numerical analysis of a single story specimen are carried out to clarify a convergent point of the incremental deformation of the Z-type NC braced frame. It is concluded that no incremental deformation occurs in cyclic behavior of elastic-plastic NC braced frame.
