Abstract

An anti-symmetric Z-type NC braced frame is proposed by the authors. This structural system has an advantage that elastic strain energy absorption capability due to one directional incremental distortional deformation in a small earthquake decreases seismic response of the structure without any damage. In this paper, one-story and one-span model specimen is employed and shaking table test and numerical analysis are carried out to examine fully the incremental distortional deformation behavior. Elastic-plastic restoring force characteristics of the braced structures and experimental results are discussed in comparison with the analytical results.
