Abstract

Due to the shrinkage of high school students and growth of the number of acceptance to universities in Japan, almost all the high school students are to be enrolled to universities, which causes various educational diffi culties in universities. To take care of students who were taught insuffi ciently in high schools, we have established the follow-up program aimed at helping students who need basic learning skills. In the follow-up program, LCT, learning check testing, is used to fi nd students who are necessary to be attended to the follow-up classes. However, LCT results can be used to another purpose. We have found that the LCT results, as well as the placement test result, are useful to classify groups from a group in which a variety of abilities are observed. In particular, remedial classes could be detected.
