Abstract

Linear induction motor does not have the function to stop at arbitrary designated position itself. Therefore, it is necessary to add some function for stopping at the designated position to the linear induction motor, when this motor is used to transporter as a driver. The stopping methods using single-phase alternating-current magnetic field or three-phase one have already been put to practical use. However, these methods require a high order of control technique to prevent swinging back and forth of transporter. In this paper, a new method for stopping at designated position is proposed. This proposed method is to decide the stopping position using three-phase alternating-current magnetic field and to prevent swinging back and forth using direct-current magnetic field. Therefore, the control technique of the proposed method is extremely simple. In this paper, the fundamental configurations and operating principle of the proposed stopping method at the designated position of transporter are described at first. Then, the structure of the trial machine and experimental results are shown and the usefulness is examined.
