The experiments of exposed-type column bases with a variety of restoring force characteristics were carried out. Generally, exposed-type column bases consist of pre-yielding and a thick base plate. The restoring force characteristics of the usual column bases are shown to be of slip-type, and the plastic deformation of the column base is brought by monotonic tensile deformation of the anchor bolts. The experiments of the column base with thin base plate, and of the column base with anchor bolts tightened in time were carried out.
