Enhancement of Usage Life on Steel Buildings using Continuous Fiber Plates
To enhance the usage life of steel building, the strengthening method with bonding continuous fiber reinforced polymer plates has been developed. Two diferent types of plates, Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) plate and Alamido fiber reinforced polymer (AFRP) plate, has been produced by japanese chemical company. For applications of bonded CFRP, AFRP plates on steel buildings, the basic mechanical properties of CFRP, AFRP, such as tensile and adhesive strength etc, are required. In the paper tensile tests and adhesive tests were peformed on CFRP and AFRP plates. Also, to show the effectiveness of strengthening method with bonding CFRP, AFRP plates on steel structures, tests on H-shaped steel simple beam with CFRP, AFRP, plates subjected to concentrated central load were conducted. The tests results showed that flexural stiffness of the beam are increased, and tensile strain at lower flange of the beam are released by use of bonding CFRP plates on lower flange.
