Abstract

Ag-SiO-Ag multifilm structures of sandwich types have been investigated. There are two stable and non-volatile states in their I-V characteristics. These two states can be switched each other by application of excess voltage over a particular critical value. This threshold voltage is peculiar to the structure itself. These multifilm structures are considered available to memory or switching elements similar to that of amorphous semiconductors. Electroluminescence of Ag-SiO-Ag and Ag-SiO--Ag-SiO--Ag multifilms, which appears when conductivity is developed, is characterized by voltage controlled negative resistance in their I-V characteristics.
