Abstract

This paper describes that the governing equations for the numerical analysis of space framed structures can be derived on the basis of the principle of hybrid potential energy and that this procedure can be applied for the analysis of the structures with beam-to-column connections considered as rigid areas. The following conclusions were obtained. 1) The necessary conditions for the analysis of the structures, that is, the equilibrium equations at the nodes, the compatibility conditions of the nodes and the relations between forces and displacements at both ends of the elements, can be derived from the stationary conditions for the functional of the principle. 2) In the case of the analysis of the structures with the rigid areas, the necessary conditions can be obtained by the stationary conditions of the functional expressed by the additional terms of potentials of end shearing forces with respect to rigid rotations about the node
