Abstract

An analytical investigation for the dynamic behaviors of the 3rd order system of solid model (3. S. M.), which was recently proposed by the authors in order to explain the anomalously non-elastic phenomenon (the asymmetry in a free vibrational decay courve) very often observed in the high damping metal films, is given and how generally the model is to describe the anelastic behaviors of a real solid system is inspected. The conclusion reached from the present analysis is that 3. S. M. can not only explain the usually observed damped oscillation symmetrical to the time base-axis and the anomalously asymmetrical damped-behavior observed particularly in metal films having large relaxation strength (⊿M), but also, without any inconsistency, deal with both the data experimentally obtained for the damping courves and the internal friction theory, and therefore it can be regarded as extensively good practice in a systematical consideration on the anelastic behaviors of the real metal solid. An equation for ⊿M, which is analyzed from the new angle, is also presented, though more or less experimental verification should be required to be put to practical use. (August 31, 1974)
