Dynamic Loading Effects on Restoring Force Characteristics of Steel Frames

Dynamic and static loading tests of steel pure frames were carried out in order to investigate the restoring force characteristics of steel structures under earthquake loading. A model structure was composed of two columns，a rigid roof and a rigid base. Shaking table was used for the models for dynamic loading. The static loading test was conducted so that the specimen could trace history of relative story-displacement of the frame in the dynamic loading test. The load-carrying capacity of the frame under dynamic loading increased by 20% higher than that under static loading. In addition，the energy absorption under dynamic loading increased by 15% compared with that under static loading.
