Abstract

The deterioration of mortar caused by sulfuric acid attack using cementitious materials was investigated. To prevent the mass reduction in a dilute sulfuric acid solution, we increased content of admixture (silica fume, blast furnace fume, blast furnace slag, fly ash, and whetstone powder) and decreased cement content. But, in spite of small weight loss in a dilute sulfuric acid solution, large penetration of sulfuric acid into mortar occurred in case of mortar with low compressive strength. Therefore, sulfuric resistance should be estimated both from weight loss and from penetration.
