Abstract

A conventional brace member buckles in compression and shows slip behavior in tension. The authors proposed a non-compression brace without buckling and slip. Experimental studies were carried out on non-compression braced frames to clarify restoring force characteristics of X-type or K type of braces. In this paper, an experimental study was performed on portal frames with exposed column bases to verify influence of an axial force of the brace on performance of the column base
