Abstract

Lighting market will be replaced with solid-state lighting (SSL) from the existing lighting. The case of bulb type LED amount of shipment was very small until 2008. But from 2009(FY), The LED bulb type lighting shipment was exceeded 4 million pcs in Japan domestic market according to JELMA (Japan Electric Lighting Manufacturing Association) statistics. Finally, the LED bulb type lighting shipment was exceeded 4.54 million pcs monthly basis in the end of 2011. This number of shipment indicates that LED market has been expanding rapidly. However, LED lighting using semiconductor technology is different from the existing lighting. Therefore, we have problem in the development of technical standards. Because LED lighting market is rapidly growing and its competition is intensifying globally, international standards are needed for the healthier market.
