According to Sylvia Plath’s poetical theory, she herself declares the relationship between the issues of our time and the art of creating poems as follows: “Does this influence the kind of poetry I write? Yes, but in a sidelong fashion..... In a sense, these poems are deflections. I do not think they are an escape. For me, the real issues of our time are the issues of every time― “(JP 98) Plath used history “to explain herself,” writing about the Nazi concentration camps as though she had been imprisoned there. Starting from her own words on making poems, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the significance of the raison d'être of the issues of our time reflectively used in her poems and to examine how the issues of our time influenced her poems of deflection, which can eventually lead to explore her origin of creativity.
