Abstract

To clarify the effect of the cooling using a fountain type cooling pipe on the die temperature, the die temperature was calculated with the three-dimensional finite element method. From the calculation, the following results were obtained. (1) The value of surface temperature of die for one casting cycle without the cooling was about 310℃, and that increased about 10℃ from the value of initial temperature of die (300℃). Further, the value of surface temperature of die for ten casting cycles without the cooling was about 343℃. (2) The value of surface temperature of die at the center of a fountain type cooling pipe for one casting cycle with the cooling and that for ten casting cycles with the cooling were about 297℃ and 322℃, respectively, and these were lower than those without the cooling. The effect of the cooling on the die temperature was recognized.
