This paper analyzes linguistically the “Peace declaration” of Hiroshima city. There are 68declarations discussed in this paper. The first declaration was published in 1947, and the latest onewas declared in 2015. The conclusions are as follows:
1) The number of characters is gradually increasing. The shortest peace declaration, held in1952, includes only 304 characters. The 2015 peace declaration is the longest declaration made and contains 1973 characters.
2) The words and vocabulary of the "PEACE DECLARATION" have been influenced by
social backgrounds, the thoughts and creeds of the mayor who reads them during the Peace
memorial ceremony on August 6, every year.
