5，6 歳児における学習および運動能力に関する自己評価について，性差を考慮しながら，他者評価との関連 を検討した。その結果，学習面，運動面，総得点において性差は認められなかったが，下位項目では，自己評価 および他者評価いずれも，女児の方が男児より高い項目を認めた。また，これまで幼児は自己評価が高いとされ てきたが，男児においては，自己評価が他者評価より有意に低い過小評価を示す項目を認めた。さらに，他者評 価の得点が最も高い場合における自己評価の得点を分析した結果，男女いずれも，他者が「とってもよくできる」 と評価した項目について，自己評価では「とってもよくできる」と妥当な評価をする児のみではなく，「まぁまぁ できる」「少しはできる」というような謙遜の反応を示す児が存在することが示された。

The purpose of this study was to compare the self-evaluation of cognitive and physical competence in 5- and 6-year-old children with the evaluation by others with a focus on gender differences. The results indicated that there was no signifi cant difference in the subscale scores of cognitive and physical competence and total scores. Certain items in the subscales showed a higher score in self-evaluation and evaluation by others for girls than for boys. While it is generally believed that young children tend to overestimate their abilities, this study shows that boys underestimated their abilities. In addition, in certain items some of participants rated themselves with a low score (≦3) while others evaluated them with a higher score (4). We conclude that this underestimation indicates modesty in the participants.
