人口の高齢化や介護保険サービス分野での雇用の増加によって、言語聴覚士(ST)が認知症の人とかかわる機会は増えている。そこで現任のST129名に調査票を送付し73名から回答を得て、認知症の人へのかかわりの頻度や内容などの実態、および今後のあり方についての意見を集約した。かかわりの頻度については、認知症をともなう例は言語聴覚療法の対象者にも多く、STが認知症の人とのかかわる頻度は高かった。内容については、「摂食・嚥下面の評価」が業務量・重要性の両者において最も高かった。今後のSTのかかわり方として、認知症にともなうコミュニケーションや生活上の障害にもかかわるのがよいという意見が多かった。STが認知症の人に広い範囲で適切にかかわるためには、認知症について学べる機会を増やし、障害特性に合った評価や介入の方法を開発するとともに、自らの役割についてST自身が自覚し、開拓する姿勢も重要と考えた。

Although more and more speech-language-hearing therapists (SLHTs) have become concerned with dementia patients, the actual conditions have not been reported. We gathered information on the actual state of dementia intervention by SLHTs and their views on desirable SLHT attitudes toward dementia intervention by means of a questionnaire. The results showed that 51.4% of the SLHTs stated that dementia patients accounted for about half or more of their clients, and that their engagement in dysphagia assessment was the highest in terms of both volume and importance of the services. In addition to the direct therapy of dementia patients, the SLHTs attached much importance to the indirect approach, which included advice for other clinical staff members and patients' families. As for desirable attitudes, about 90% of the SLHTs answered that they should deal with problems in daily life and communication that resulted from dementia. We discussed what is needed for SLHTs to carry out a useful and responsible role in the team approach to dementia.
