失語症になると, 言語機能やコミュニケーション能力が制限されるともに, 失語症者特有のさまざまな心理社会的問題が生じる。心理社会的問題の軽減にあたっては, 地域の人々が失語症を理解し, 適切な対応方法をとることが大切である。我々は, 心理社会的アプローチの観点から, 地域社会の人々を対象に, 過去3回「失語症ボランティア養成講座」を実施した。本講座の目的は, 地域の人々の失語症理解を促し, 失語症者にかかわるボランティアを養成することであった。本稿では, 講座の概要と参加者の反応, および第1回講座終了後に結成された失語症ボランティアグループの活動内容を紹介した。計3回の講座を実施したことと, 失語症に対する一般的な社会的認知度が向上したことなどによって, 地域の人々の失語症理解が進んできたと思われた。今後, さらに失語症者の心理社会的問題を軽減するためのさまざまな取り組みが必要であると思われた。

Aphasia not only restricts the language function and communication ability of people with aphasia, but also causes them various psycho-social problems. In order to deal with the psycho-social problems, it is essential that people in the local community understand the nature of aphasia well so that they become able to communicate efficiently with people with aphasia. As a part of our psycho-social approaches to aphasia therapy, we have held 3 training courses for volunteers who work for adults with aphasia in the community. The aims of the courses were to develop public understanding of aphasia and to train volunteers who could support people with aphasia. In this report, we presented the summary of the volunteers training courses for adults with aphasia, responses of the participants, and activities of the volunteers' group that was formed following the first training course. It seems that the courses contributed to promoting the local people's understanding of aphasia. It is considered that varied and continuous efforts are indispensable in order to resolve psycho-social problems of people with aphasia further.
