We describe a computer version of the code for International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (ICD-O). This system combines a graphics user interface with a search mechanism while using the hierarchical structure of the code. The graphics user interface allows easy selection of an anatomic part, while the search mechanism provides the code numbers associated with an entered term. We created a HyperCard system that provides ICD-O codes based on the hierarchical structure of the ICD-O code and has the added options of being able to handle the machine entry mouse - clicking and selecting pictorial representations of anatomic structures. Reference time was far fast when utiliziing this computer coding system, reference time was far fast than the ICD-O code book.
